Tivy's Tunes
by Carolyn Holt
The Tivy band program present this year's UIL and half-time performance, “Pirates into the Unknown.” The very nautical theme of this year's show was developed from the inspiration of sea shanties and preparations for the show started well before school did. Starting in early July with their annual summer band camp and now, after school, for several hours during 3 days of the week. When Friday comes, “They march laps around the track playing music, then head up to the band stands making sure a water station is set up and that everyone has what they need and are prepared to play the school song, fight song, and the national anthem before kick-off," said Jason Jung, the head band director. Game day is an opportunity for the band to showcase all of their hard work. The half-time show is very important for the band because it gives them the experience of performing for a live audience and allows them to better see what needs improvement so they can be more than ready to perform in front of UIL judges. “I look forward to putting the show on the [football] field, that’s always my favorite,” said Jung |
Student Council Newsby Noeomi Estudiante
Have you ever wondered how to join STUCO, that’s short for Student Council if you did not know, or what happens in STUCO? First let’s talk about how to join so you know for next year. At the beginning of the school year, you must go to Mrs. Portillo’s class and ask for a form, fill it out, and then turn it in. Then, Mrs. Portillo will contact you by email with more information, and that is it. Student Council works on many projects, such as homecoming, prom, service projects, dances, fundraisers, and much more. Junior class president Livy Bernhard thinks going to be a good year STUCO. It’s her first year as president but her third in STUCO, so she knows how things run. “I enjoy putting in the work and helping others,” she said. She also feels that it is a good social club where you can make a lot of friends. If you are looking to be a part of something on campus, consider joining student council. They meet every FIT time. |
